The most common question people ask me
“What’s there to do in Manhattan?” But they should ask “What will I do differently in Manhattan?” Students will find that the K-State campus and Manhattan offer the same activities they are involved in at home. There are cheap movies, great places to eat, dollar bowling, shopping, and a lot of events on and off campus. The biggest difference is the people. So I encourage you to open yourself up to the possibilities, step out of your comfort zone, and experience some really great fun. It’s not so much what you do, but who you do it with!
Why I chose K-State
The faculty at K-State in the School of Journalism and Mass Communications really made me feel like I could and would shine at K-State. After my visit, I felt like I would have a really great academic support.
The most surprising thing about K-State
People are surprised how close-knit the campus and the students really are. K-State equals family, and it is always welcoming.
What I’d do differently if I could go back to high school
I would have been more involved and would have developed better study habits.
What I was nervous about at K-State
I was nervous about making it to my classes on time. The cool thing is everything on campus is within 10 minutes walking distance, so getting to class in plenty of time was not a problem.
How I stayed organized in college
I needed to see my daily schedule really big. I would write my activities in order of importance on a large calendar.
My studying strategy
Taking great notes and reviewing those notes the same week worked best. It’s important to stay ahead if you can. Finding a study partner is a great way to meet new friends.
The secret to a good freshman GPA
Students need to realize that prioritizing what is important is essential to establishing that first year GPA. Additionally, know that it is okay to ask for help, sign up for a tutor, and talk to your professor or academic advisor.
Coolest event I attended on campus
I loved the open mic at Ebony Theatre. I was able to read my own poetry and listen to many other creative works.
My college jobs
I had three jobs while at K-State. I was fortunate because they worked around my class schedule and studying time.
The best part of my job
The best part of my job is seeing the light in students’ eyes when they realize that college is an option and K-State has the resources to help them to achieve their goals.
My dream vacation
I’d like to visit the black sand beaches.
My guilty pleasure
Chocolate topped with chocolate! That’s cookies, brownies, ice cream, fudge, and anything else.
The color purple
I just moved into my apartment, and I decided that the bathroom will be purple. No matter what anyone says you can never have too much purple!
The most surprising thing about me
I’ve traveled to Australia, I can dance to almost anything, and I am an avid reader!
My tip for getting involved on campus
Leave your room!
