MAJORS THAT REQUIRE A HIGHER GPA FOR ADMISSION
Some K-State majors require a higher GPA than the university minimum. So it’s possible to be eligible for admission to the university, but not to a specific major.
Check the lists below to see if your major requires a higher GPA or additional application materials.
Majors with selective admissions
These programs have limited enrollments. Submit your materials by the application deadline to compete for one of the spots.
Your application materials, including transcripts and test scores, must be received and processed by February 1 to receive full consideration for fall admission.
The structure of these programs requires new students to begin their studies in the fall semester. Applicants are considered on the basis of academic performance and space availability.
College of Architecture, Planning, and Design
- Architecture
- Interior architecture and product design
- Landscape architecture
If your application materials are postmarked after Febuary 1, your application will not be considered for admission to any program of study within the College of Architecture, Planning, and Design.

Majors that start with a pre-professional track
For some majors, you’ll start in pre-professional studies (a general track that requires some basic courses and introduces you to the major). After a period of time—usually a year or two—you apply to be in the major.
Students entering the following programs must begin in pre-professional studies and earn a GPA higher than 2.0 to be admitted to the professional program:
College of Engineering
- Architectural engineering
- Construction science and management
College of Business Administration
- All business majors
College of Arts and Sciences
- Journalism and mass communications
- Psychology
- All health-related programs
College of Education
- All teacher education programs
