EVALUATING YOUR TRANSCRIPT

Your transcripts will be reviewed according to K-State’s grading and credit hour policies.

Grades

  • Grades such as W, WP, WF, and I do not affect GPA calculations.
  • A grade of X, N, or other grade that indicates graded unsatisfactory achievement will be translated into an F and calculated into the overall GPA.
  • Grades of CR, NCR, S, U, P, or NP, which represent ungraded achievement, whether successful or unsuccessful, do not affect the GPA calculations.
  • If transfer credits include courses repeated at the same institution, only the first attempt of a course that has been repeated is not used in GPA calculations. All other retakes from the same institution are averaged into your cumulative GPA.

Transfer credits

The unit of credit at K-State is the semester hour. All incoming transcripts will be converted to semester hours. Quarter credits are converted as follows: 1 quarter hour = .67 semester hour.

Courses accepted for transfer to K-State are college-level and academic in nature. Courses not accepted for transfer include such courses as vocational and technical courses, remedial courses, continuing education units, nursing and other medical courses, and personal-interest courses such as speed reading, bicycle repair, and pet grooming. English language courses from international schools will not be accepted for transfer credit.

Two religion courses from a religiously affiliated institution will be accepted for transfer credit.

Courses and credit hours are transferred in, but transfer GPAs do not become part of your K-State transcript. Although your GPA does not transfer, your college will make course applicability decisions and determine whether you are eligible for admission to your major program based on your transfer GPA.

The grade of D will transfer to K-State. However, if the D grade was earned in a foundation course, you may be required to repeat the course so that you will be successful in subsequent courses.

The College of Engineering will not use any courses with a grade of D toward meeting degree requirements. All courses used in engineering degrees must be graded A, B, or C.

Grades of C or higher are required in all courses labeled as foundation, professional, and supporting in College of Human Ecology degree programs.

There is no limit on the age of the courses you have completed. Your K-State college will advise you which, if any, of the courses need to be updated to meet degree requirements.

How your courses transfer

Transfer criteria

The transfer of credit is determined by the educational quality of the transfer institution, the comparability of content and level of credit earned, and the applicability of credit earned to K-State's degree requirements. Most academic credits submitted from any regionally accredited two- or four-year college, community college, or university are accepted by K-State.

Which courses transfer? Course equivalency information for all Kansas community colleges and other selected colleges is available on the web.

To receive transfer credit from an international college or university, we strongly encourage you to submit an evaluation report from a credential service. Applications can be processed more quickly when you provide a credential evaluation. The service used is up to you, but it must be one that is a member of NACES (National Association of Credential Evaluation Services).

Validation

If you have completed course work at an unaccredited or noncollege institution you may seek recognition of that work through "validation."

Validation requires that K-State academic departments acknowledge that the courses you have completed are comparable with K-State courses. This is generally determined by an end-of-course examination, by successfully completing higher-level courses, or by other means.

You will work with your advisor and with the dean's office after you have arrived on campus to determine which courses you should attempt to validate.
