LEADERSHIP
Leadership comes naturally at K-State. Our programs are tops in the nation, our professors are tops in their fields, and our students regularly bring home top 10 honors in competitions ranging from math to livestock to dance.
Leadership studies
In fact, leadership is so highly valued at K-State, we offer it as a minor. Sign up for the leadership studies minor, and you’ll not only get another credential for your resume, you’ll be learning from the best. Speakers range from K-State’s president to leaders across campus and the community.
K-State’s leadership studies program is the only one of its kind in the Big 12. Students learn leadership principles and foundations and put their studies into practice by teaching introductory classes or becoming ambassadors for the program. A nonprofit option gives students leadership certification through the American Humanics Management Institute in addition to their K-State credits. In 2009, K-State's nonprofit focus was honored by the Institute for having the best internship and graduate job placement in the country.
The School of Leadership studies also offers service opportunities through mentoring, the K-State Volunteer Center of Manhattan, and summer and spring break service trips.

Leadership opportunities
You don’t have to become a bigwig to be a leader. Plenty of opportunities on campus don’t require a suit and tie:
Be a resident assistant
Every floor of K-State’s nine residence halls has a resident assistant. As RA, you’ll provide guidance to the members of your floor: academic help, directions to class, personal advice, even fashion tips.
Run for office
Students have a big voice at K-State. Our Student Governing Association plays a major role in issues across campus and in Manhattan. Share your ideas as a member of SGA, or become an ambassador for your college.
Lead a club
There are more than 450 clubs to choose from at K-State, ranging from the rugby team to the Japanese Student Association to the bakery science club. You can also venture out and start your own group.
Be a tutor
Tutors are the unsung heroes of the leadership world. K-State tutors guide fellow students to success at the Academic Assistance Center or in residence hall dining centers.
Go Greek
Plan service activities or just get experience leading your peers in a fraternity or sorority. K-State Greeks represent about 20 percent of K-State undergrads, but they hold about 65 percent of the leadership positions on campus.
Come to K-State
Ask your counselor about the Kansas High School Leadership Conference. It's a great way to learn from K-State's top students about how you can make a difference in your school and community.
