Kinds of jobs

A variety of jobs, both on and off campus, are posted daily on the Career and Employment Services webpage, with printouts posted on the Union's job board each week. Here is a sample of the types of jobs typically listed:

Hospitality/food service

There may be openings for dining hall servers, restaurant waiters and waitresses, hosts and hostesses, cooks, or catering assistants.

Marketing/sales

Positions for sales agents, retail workers, and telemarketing callers are frequently available.

Clerical/office support

Job openings might include general office workers, clerical staff, student loan workers, receptionists, and file workers.

Social services/healthcare

You could be asked to babysit, counsel, tutor, drive for the disabled, or live in.

General labor

Most positions are for yard workers, cleaning staff, and storeroom and stocking workers.

Science/research

You might find openings for lab researchers, computer programmers, photo technicians, or animal science workers.

Recreation/camps

Opportunities such as summer camp counselors and sports officials.

Seasonal/independent contractor

Lists camps and part-time jobs outside the Manhattan area.

Information technology/mathematics

Job openings for website designers, technical support, and help desk consultants, among others.

Campus jobs

The university has two types of jobs available to students: work-study and campus payroll. Both types allow you to work a maximum of 30 hours per week during the school year.

Work-study jobs require financial need as defined by the Office of Student Financial Assistance. The financial aid you receive is partially paid through your part-time employment.

Unlike work-study jobs, campus payroll jobs are available to any student who applies.
