Cover breaking news on the K-State campus and submit your work to the Collegian, one of the top student newspapers in the country. You’ll learn the finer points of structuring articles, interviewing, and meeting deadlines.

Field Methods Linguistics

If you woke up in a foreign country, how would you communicate? Here’s your chance to find out. First meet your class informant, a native speaker of an uncommon language like Swahili or Kisii. Then it’s up to you to learn how to communicate. Ask questions, point at objects, or make gestures. By the end of the semester, you’ll have a new perspective on learning and teaching languages, as well as communication in general.

Radio Practicum

Host a radio show, write and report the news, chat about sports, or plan concerts and events at KSDB Wildcat 91.9, K-State’s student-operated radio station and the oldest continually running FM station in Kansas.

Spanish Composition and Grammar

Blog about what it's like to be a K-Stater. You'll pump up your Spanish vocabulary and writing skills as you document college life: living in the residence halls, dining in your favorite restaurants, visiting local nature areas, and more.

Love the drama of the courtroom? Find out how communication shapes the dynamics of jury trials, from the opening statement to the final verdict. Then practice your craft in a mock trial in front of a real jury.

Introduction to Linguistic Anthropology

Pop quiz: In what language does “Bæt bætinis En Eisk?” mean “Where are the yellow bananas?” Hebrew? Latin? It’s actually Abskedek Jmkt, a language invented by K-State anthropology students. Learn the rules of grammar, syntax, and sound systems while you invent your own language. Then partner with a student from another country to compare and contrast your languages.

Can you talk the talk? K-State offers everything from French to Hebrew. If you've studied languages before you can study masterpieces in a lit class or polish your speaking skills in an intensive conversation class. If you're just getting started, beginning courses will help you master basic vocabulary and grammar.

Public Relations Campaigns

Work with local nonprofits to raise HIV/AIDS awareness. You'll write brochures, design logos, build a website, organize fundraisers, and get experience with other tactical tools used by big-time PR firms.
