What to know
Preparing for college takes a lot of planning. You have to ask yourself: Where am I going to live? What classes am I going to take? What am I going to do about my computer?
While we can’t answer all your big life questions, we can help with the computer. Here are some important things you should know about computing at K-State:
Booting up
Every new student will have to choose an eID and password to access K-State’s network. Once you’ve chosen your eID and password, you will be able to check your webmail, enroll in classes, and check up with your professors on K-State Online.
Buy the way
Buying a computer for college can be complicated. Some majors at K-State have specific recommendations for their course work. Some old machines might not have the right operating system for the residence halls. Before you make any hasty decisions about computer purchases, find out what K-State suggests you bring to college.
Free computers
Let’s clarify: free to use, not free to take. OK, so you already knew that, but did you know that K-State has seven university-supported computer labs on campus and the residence halls have 11 labs? If you are not planning to buy a computer for college you won’t be left out.
Computer security at K-State
With all the junk on the web, it’s important to keep your computer protected. K-State offers free antivirus software and spam filtering for students, faculty, and staff. If you have a computer problem, K-State offers computer repairs and maintenance.
The ins and outs
Everyone likes convenience, especially when it comes to computers. At the K-State Student Union computer store you'll have quick access to almost any technological products.
Help desk to the rescue
There’s nothing more frustrating than a computer that is self-imploding in front of you. Well, you don’t have to stand by and watch. Call the help desk! It’s available to answer questions seven days a week, often until late at night.
