ROTC AT K-STATE
If you want leadership skills, tuition assistance, and more, think ROTC.
K-State’s two Reserve Officer’s Training Corps can help you get your degree and prepare for your future. For many cadets, ROTC is a chance to go to college and earn an officer’s commission at the same time. For others, it’s a leg up for their civilian careers. Whatever your motivation, ROTC can give you the advantage you need to succeed.
Like past cadets at K-State, you could command some outstanding benefits.
- Scholarships for tuition and expenses. ROTC cadets may be eligible for scholarships that cover tuition, books, and fees, and awards are given based on merit, not need.
- Management and leadership training. Jump into the action. Through hands-on experience and detachment-sponsored events, you’ll learn how to achieve goals and motivate people for your military or civilian career.
- Extracurricular activities. Join service organizations and attend special service events with other ROTC cadets.
History
ROTC has a long tradition at K-State. Since its founding in 1863, K-State has offered general military training on campus. Army ROTC was formally established here in 1918. The K-State Air Force ROTC began in 1952. Today both programs are part of the College of Arts and Sciences’ military science and aerospace studies departments.
K-State ROTC bragging rights
- In 2003 a national board named eight K-State Army ROTC senior cadets Distinguished Military Graduates, an honor that placed them in the top 20 percent of the 4,685 graduating senior cadets nationwide. K-State's Army ROTC program ranks in the top two percent nationwide in terms of "quality of graduates produced."
- Our Army ROTC program was named the best Army ROTC program in Kansas and is ranked among the top 20 percent in the nation.
- Our Air Force ROTC has twice been named one of the nation’s best. Our program holds an Air Force Organizational Excellence Award, which places it in the top 10 percent in the nation.
