make your place feel like home

You’ve already bought your sheets and shower caddy. You’re bringing the microwave, and your new roomie has the fridge. You’re ready for the halls, right?

Not quite. Here are few things you might have overlooked, but shouldn't forget.

Power cords

If you’re planning to go all out on electronics, three outlets won't cut it. With a fridge, TV, stereo system, coffeemaker, and microwave, plus laptops, hair dryers, flat irons, phone chargers, and PlayStations, power cords are a must.

Air freshener

It’s almost impossible to get through a year in the residence halls without someone burning the popcorn. When this happens, it’s best to be prepared. Shut your door, turn on the fan, and bust out the Febreze. The Air Effects apple spice and delight scent is perfect for covering the burned popcorn smell without an awkward aroma mix, and it makes your room smell nice and homey.

Memory foam mattress pad

Even if you’re not planning to sleep much in college, you want to be comfy when you decide to hit the sack. Mattress pads not only make for a great sleeping surface, but they’re an inexpensive addition to your new pad.

Storage bins

Even the worst packrats can make it work in the residence halls or apartments. The secret is saving space. Stackable storage bins are a great way to fit everything in your closet, stay organized, and keep your room neat and tidy. You’ll appreciate the extra room, and your roommate will appreciate your cleanliness.

Fan

If your pad doesn’t have top-notch circulation, you can definitely fix that with a little help from a rotating fan. Stick one next to the window when you want to bring the outside in during the warmer months of fall and spring.

Dust buster

You can check out cleaning supplies from the front desk of the halls, but a hand vac can be really handy for small spills. A dust buster is also a great weapon for scaring off pesky dust bunnies before they turn into dust dinosaurs.
