Feeling creative? Watch art students spin the pottery wheel, or buy a piece of fine pottery. Chat with art students about our 10 areas of concentration—from graphic design to painting. Our 2009 spring scholarship exhibits will also be on display throughout the three floors of Willard Hall.

Biochemistry

Want to know the secrets of life? Become a biochemist. Learn how molecules work inside a living cell. View a slide show of research activities, and meet insects used in research on campus.

Biology

View displays from the student chapter of the Wildlife Society and the microbiology club. Examine living organisms used in genetic studies, take a biology knowledge quiz, and get information about the Konza Prairie.

Chemistry

See glassblowing shows at 10 a.m. and noon in 114 Willard Hall. See weird science with a chemistry magic show at 11 a.m. in the quad, north of Hale Library; the show will move to 114 Willard Hall if the weather is bad.

History

We have so many stories to tell—and so little time! See the notorious Lecompton Reenactors perform scenes from the Civil War in full period costume in the quad between Waters Hall and Hale Library.

Johnson Center for Basic Cancer Research

Tour a laboratory in the cancer center to learn how the center supports faculty and students doing cancer research.

Journalism and mass communications

Learn more about the fast-paced world of journalism, electronic media, advertising, and public relations. Watch live coverage of Open House, produced by our students and broadcast throughout the Union and on K-State TV, local cable channel 8. Visit Wildcat 91.9, K-State’s award-winning student radio station, on the first floor of the Union to start your broadcasting career. Learn how the prized Kansas State Collegian and Royal Purple are produced in Kedzie Hall.

Kinesiology

Visit the kinesiology booth to learn more about the department and the importance of a physically active lifestyle.

Mathematics

Who will be the math whiz? Find out when students compete in the Manhattan Mathematical Olympiad from 9 a.m. to noon in 101 Cardwell Hall. Competitions for grades 5-6, 7-8, and 9-12. Discover the many career opportunities open to math graduates.

Military sciences

Target success. Stop by our table to learn more about our pre-professional program, which includes leadership development, military skills, and adventure training. Be sure to try out our rock-climbing wall at Bosco Student Plaza, outside the Union.

Army ROTC will host the army’s Strength in Action Tour, which includes interactive displays for leadership, army robotics, flight simulation, and team building. Mid-Campus Drive in front of Anderson Hall.

Modern languages

Try one of our mini-classes to learn your language level. Learn your name in Japanese. Get information on language minors, majors, and departmental summer programs abroad.

Music

Like to sing? Play a horn? Consider getting free seats on the 50-yard line at football games by becoming involved in marching band. Take the stage at McCain Auditorium as a member of the symphony orchestra. Learn how to get involved in performing ensembles and other opportunities in music.

Philosophy

Keep your hands on physics with user-friendly demonstrations you can touch! Sparks will fly, ion winds will blow, and music will be in the air as the physics club hosts hair-raising demonstrations and hands-on activities for all to enjoy in Cardwell’s main entrance and 143 Cardwell Hall.
