Brittanie Escareno

Sociology major with an emphasis in criminology, from Cheney

Where I interned

Wichita Police Department, Wichita

Testing the waters

"I got an internship because I wanted to see just what a police department was actually like. You see things on TV, but being there firsthand is a little different. I wanted to see if getting into the police department was the right thing for me. I also felt that doing an internship might give me an advantage when applying for jobs."

Observation is the key

"I did not really work on anything. My internship was more about observing and seeing what officers do on a daily basis. Some days I would observe prostitution arrests and drug busts, other days would be mostly paperwork. I observed a total of 240 hours."

Three words to describe your experience

"Unpredictable, amazing, exciting."

Ready, set, go!

"I am graduating in May and will be moving to Kansas City, where I will be a police officer. After doing an internship, I am reassured of my career path and am excited to jump right in."
