Start a campus club

You might expect to find organizations like the Chess Club, Young Democrats, and Habitat for Humanity on a college campus. But did you ever think parachuting or rock climbing would be a part of your college experience? They can be at K-State, where you have more than 400 campus clubs to choose from.

Between Juggling Club, Opera Guild, and Block and Bridle Club, K-State has a club for almost any interest. But if you still can’t find what you’re looking for, start your own club! Just follow these steps to bring together people who share your interests.

Determine the purpose of your organization

Begin with a clear idea of what you want your organization to be. Make sure there isn’t a similar club already, because if the club already exists, your request will be turned down.

Gather interested students and faculty

You are required to have at least five student members to start a student organization. You must also have a faculty advisor. This can be any K-State professor, advisor, or administrator.

Illustrated two

Fill out a student organization registration form

Forms are available at the Office of Student Activities and Services or online. The form will require the name of your organization, the number of members, and the names of the club’s president, treasurer, and faculty advisor.

Attend an organization registration meeting

One club member must attend a campuswide registration meeting before the club’s registration will be effective. The meetings provide basic information about campus organizations. This is where you will turn in your registration form.

Write a constitution

When you pick up your registration form, you will also be given a sample constitution that can be used as a model for your own. The usual articles are described, but there are no rigid requirements for the form of the constitution. The purpose is to confirm that your organization meets all OSAS requirements and to provide enough direction that future members can continue the group with little difficulty.

Spread the word

Your club is official! Gather up all the other romantic movie fans, future DJs, or whoever's interested and start doing your thing.

Schedule an appointment with an OSAS staff member

The club’s president and faculty advisor must meet with an OSAS staff member to finalize registration. Once your constitution, registration form, and attendance at a registration meeting are confirmed, your club will be official.
