Get to know the international crowd

With more than 100 countries represented in K-State’s student body, you’ll have unparalleled access to people from around the globe. You’ll make friends with international students in your classes, the residence halls, and the dining centers, but here are some other smart ways to scope out and befriend the international crowd.

Smile when you walk

You’d be surprised how many people will remember you just for being the friendly face on their way to calc class.

Introduce yourself first

Being in another country can be a bit overwhelming, especially if you’re alone. So be the first one to say “hey” and introduce yourself to international students. It’ll take the pressure off them to go friend searching and will make them feel a little more at home.

Meet up

K-State’s International Student Center organizes programs like International Buddies and Coffee Hour that pair you up with an international student at K-State. The two of you can get together for coffee, meet for a movie or shopping, or share some good old conversation. You’ll help your buddy feel more comfortable in the States, and you’ll expand your list of future vacation spots. Buenos Aires, here I come!

Find international students
to help you with projects

A lot of introductory classes you’ll take as a freshman ask you to introduce yourself to someone new and learn about them. So why not chat it up with the guy down the hall from Sri Lanka? Not only will this make for an interesting conversation, but it could also be the start of a beautiful friendship.

Attend an international event

There are tons of international events throughout the year. It’s easy to make friends while taste-testing some Indian cuisine, discussing a French film, or talking to a member of the Japanese dance troupe after a performance.
