Try something new

Since kindergarten, you may have had your fill of science, math, English, and social studies. No one’s denying the importance of George Washington or the Pythagorean theorem, but an occasional break from the routine can be refreshing. Check out these great ways to pursue your interests and maybe even discover some you didn’t know you had.

Cool classes

Start the transition to a more adventurous life by injecting a little excitement into your class schedule. Design a new cookie, discover the deeper meaning of The Cat in the Hat, or install a sprinkler system in a K-State faculty member’s yard. Discover the unusual classes K-State has to offer.

UFM

If K-State’s cool classes are still too traditional for you, try visiting UFM Community Learning Center. UFM offers recreational, hobby and personal interest classes, and some are even available for K-State credit. Check out scuba diving, ballroom dancing, Indian cooking, knitting, or whatever else interests you.

Volunteer

If your usual schedule leaves you feeling bored and unfulfilled, consider giving some of your time to someone else. You can tutor grade-school children or volunteer in a retirement home. Or try a group combating hurricane damage, feeding the homeless, or raising money for national charities all over the world.

Appreciate the arts

When’s the last time you listened to an orchestra? Toured an art gallery? Watched an opera? You might not consider yourself the artsy type, but you may find your tastes have changed since the days your parents forced you to sit through your little sister’s choir concerts. Set one afternoon aside to hear a K-State jazz ensemble, catch a play at the Manhattan Arts Center, or browse the work at the Beach Museum of Art.

Study abroad

Contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to speak a foreign language, major in international studies, or be rich to study abroad. And there’s no better way to break a boring streak than to spend a semester immersing yourself in a new country and culture. K-Staters from every major have studied architecture, business, communications, and just about everything else in more than 150 countries across the world.
